For this project, I chose to focus on the quote "More open-ended questions about the provenance of 3D scans or, more precisely, the symbolic and monetary value that is assigned to these copies in a knowledge-based economy" (pg.11) from the reading Whose Digital Heritage by Chad Elias. This idea of recreation and adding something new to an object inspired me initially, so I began experimenting while staying open-ended to have fewer limitations. While exploring the recreation of a sketchbook, I discovered more connections to the readings I wanted to explore. For example, I found out how interesting it would be to critique museums with their colorless (white) appearance and decorative nature and take ownership over that. I wanted to make my interpretation more inclusive, hence my closeness to journals and their universal value of being shared. Another connection I discovered was how museums occasionally use plaster for their walls, and the material I was using was plaster. So that connection of the color white, plaster as the material, and ceremonial value of a journal carried me through this project and reading.
